It’s happened again. I’m helping another business owner who isn’t the registered owner of their own name. This time, like the others, should end well, but after much hassle. I have heard of horror stories where the rightful domain name owner has had to find another name and move on.
I can’t tell you how many times this has happened. A customer wants to hire me and move their site only to find that the person they hired to *do everything* for their website has registered the domain name(s) in their own name, not their customers.
If you haven’t registered your website name yet, take a minute and do it yourself. Go to GoDaddy.com, Register.com or any of a thousand other reputable registrars and buy your domain name. They will probably try to sell you upgrades and other stuff, but all your really need to do is register your domain name in your name. GoDaddy charges less than $11.00 a year for this.
If you already have a website name see who is listed as the administrative contact.
There are many sites that will tell you this, like http://cqcounter.com/whois/
If you are not listed as the administrative contact, write to who is there and let them know you want it changed.
Once you are the administrative contact you are in charge. Any time you or someone else tries to move or change ownership of your site you will get a request for approval. It’s just as important to make sure the contact information for you is always current so you get those requests.

Just back from the beach and I feel great! It was a wonderful week, it only rained Wednesday (late at night). That’s perfect weather two years in a row. We stayed in the same house as last year, maybe that’s it. First time to stay in the same house twice since the mid 90?s.
I never usually post things while I’m gone, but before I left I asked several people what they thought about posting pictures on facebook, Twitter, etc. As you might expect, everyone said that it was not a good idea. Some were more vigorous than others.
The people that did post their memories live, as they happened, also felt that it probably wasn’t safe, but the benefits outweighed the risks.
I’m not sure. Do you have any thoughts on that?

Participants Still Needed for Golf Outing to Benefit Military Connections
Pittsburgh, PA (April 2010) – On May 18th, a golf outing is being held at the Birdsfoot Golf Course in Freeport, PA to benefit Military Connections, a local troop support organization. The non-profit has been shipping care packages to Soldiers and Marines deployed overseas since 2003. Proceeds collected through participation and sponsorships at the May 18th event will benefit Military Connections’ continued efforts.
Lee Wagner, a financial advisor with Waddell & Reed in Monroeville, stepped in to help with the fundraiser and become a presenting sponsor because of his military background. As a former Marine, Wagner knows how precious care packages are, especially for the service men and women who would not normally get a gift from home.
“Military Connections has a great thing going on, and I hope more people begin to recognize their efforts and support their cause. The golf outing is one way we’re reaching out to the community, so I’m hoping to see our teams become full in the next few weeks,” Wagner said.
Registration for the golf outing starts at 8:00am at the Birdsfoot Golf Course in Freedom, PA on May 18th with dinner and raffles to follow. Registration forms can be found online at http://www.militaryconnections.org/images/GolfApplicationMC.pdf. For more information, please call 412-496-8941 or email militaryconnections@hotmail.com.
On of the most often asked questions to me about SEO is how do you choose what keywords to use when writing a page.
Stoney deGeyter has a great explanation of how you should choose keywords
If you have ever wondered how to determine the best words for optimizing your traffic, you should read it.
I’ve written about writing keywords before, but Stoney says it better than I ever did.

| The first Pepsi Refresh Grant recipients who developed the 32 refreshing ideas voted most likely to move our communities forward have been awarded $1.3 million from the Pepsi Refresh Project, a ground-breaking initiative designed to fund good ideas, big and small, that help refresh our world. In January, the Pepsi Refresh Project invited individuals and organizations to submit beneficial, achievable, constructive and “shovel-ready” ideas that would make a positive impact on communities. From February 1 through February 28, Americans voted for their favorite ideas at www.refresheverything.com.
“The Pepsi Refresh Project was developed with the belief that great ideas can come from anyone, anywhere, anytime,” said Jill Beraud, CMO and president of joint ventures, PepsiCo Beverages Americas. “The first group of winners proves it’s true. Each of them is a testament to how someone from any walk of life can produce powerful, creative and fun ideas that can make a difference.”
One of the recipients of the Pepsi Grant is local troop support organization, Military Connections. Military Connections is a 501 c3 non-profit that has been shipping care packages to Soldiers and Marines deployed overseas since 2003. Founder, Summer Tissue, of Bethel Park, PA applied for a $5000 grant through Pepsi to help cover the cost of postage associated with shipping Girl Scout cookies overseas. On March 22nd, 2010 Summer received official word from Pepsi that Military Connections won $5000 to help with their project.
“I never thought we would win a nationwide grant competition. It is incredible to know that our project touched so many Americans. We can’t wait to start packing the cookies so that we can mail them to the troops. The Pepsi grant will cover the postage on 400 of the 6000 Girl Scout Cookie cases that we received this season,” said Summer Tissue, Founder of Military Connections. “The soldiers and Marines on our mailing list our grateful for the packages that we ship. Thank you for voting for us America!”
